How to start thinking positively

Today is a post that I think is essential for every student to read. I want to share the power of positive thinking to other students because it took me a while to understand and believe in its powerful effects. Now that I have experienced this first hand, I wish I had known about it earlier. So what do I mean by positive thinking?

Step 1 to positive thinking: Gratitude

To truly think positively about your life, and be happy every day you first need to be thankful for what you have. Let me give you an example. Let’s say you live in a mansion with a fabulous car, all the clothes you could wish for and more money than you could dream. But you still want more things, desire a different career, wish for more time for yourself – you aren’t happy. It’s because you aren’t feeling grateful for what you have. Instead, you are focusing on what you don’t have. How can you enjoy your life if you don’t love what you already have? If you’re constantly looking for what’s coming next? Be thankful. Start each morning by thinking about what you are happy about and being grateful for those things. Write it down, meditate. Tell the people you love why you love them. Give back. Appreciate the things you have no matter how small and watch how much happier you can be when you do this.

Step 2 to positive thinking: Think of exactly what you want and visualize it

It is amazing how when you start to think positively how much happier you become. You attract what you think of and when you think happy thoughts you attract positive people and great opportunities. Think of when you start your day. If you start off your day by stubbing your toe, you might become angry and want to blame the incident on your cat for being in your way or your roommate for distracting you, or your bedroom for being too small….you get the picture. You’ve started your day off the wrong way and the rest of your day drags on the same. We all know the kind of days I’m talking about. So why not think positively every day and have each day be like that? It works the same way! If you stub your toe, sit down, take a moment to feel the pain then take a few deep breaths and focus your energy on all the good things your day is going to bring. Think of exactly what you want because you attract what your thoughts are. Write it down, think about it, be happy when you think about it. Don’t think of what you don’t want- you will only attract that which you don’t want. Plus, when you are thinking about what you want, don’t underestimate the power of visualizing what you want. Follow these steps: ask (think of exactly what you want), believe (visualize and see yourself with the object or doing what it is you want) and retrieve (get what you want) and you will attract great things in your life through the power of positive thinking.

Step 3: Surround yourself with positive vibes

If you are surrounded by toxic people who are constantly complaining and dragging you down, don’t let them drag you down with them. You can either change the conversation or walk away from it. The same goes for the environment you are living in. Put up positive messages, vision boards, paint your room a new color. Listen to upbeat music, dance, and sing. Give back. Do what makes you happy and you will think happy thoughts. When was the last time you were doing something you hated and were thinking happy thoughts? It just doesn’t happen. You think happy thoughts when you are doing what you love and are surrounded by people you love. So find what you are passionate about, do what you need to do and surround yourself with good vibes!
